LEARNING WITH COURSERA
MODULE 2

In this course, I learned how to create an American-style resume, which is a key tool for job applications. The resume includes several important sections such as Contact Information, Summary of Qualifications, Work Experience, Education, Skills, and Certifications. Each section plays a unique role in highlighting my strengths and making me stand out to employers. For example, the Contact Information section lists my name, phone number, email, and LinkedIn profile, while the Summary of Qualifications provides a quick overview of what I bring to the table. The Work Experience section is crucial, where I list my jobs in reverse chronological order, starting with the most recent position, and focus on relevant achievements.

Building on this knowledge, I practiced creating my own 1-page resume, making sure to use clear and simple formatting. I incorporated bullet points, bold text, and italic font to ensure my resume looks professional and is easy to read. In doing so, I learned the importance of keeping the content concise while still highlighting the most relevant experience and skills for the job I'm applying for.

A significant part of the learning process was understanding how to use action verbs effectively. These verbs, such as developed, managed, and increased, are key to making my resume stronger. By using specific action verbs, I can better show the impact I made in my previous roles. Rather than using vague terms like “helped with” or “was responsible for,” I now describe my experience in a way that clearly demonstrates my contributions.

Furthermore, I discovered the importance of including keywords in my resume. These are terms directly related to the job or industry, and they help my resume get noticed by both employers and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). For example, keywords could include job titles, skills, or specific tasks mentioned in the job posting. By carefully using these keywords, I can increase my chances of being selected for an interview.

To reinforce what I learned, I completed quizzes and reviewed various resume examples, which helped me practice organizing my resume and using action verbs and keywords effectively. These exercises also ensured that I understood the best ways to present my qualifications in a professional manner. Overall, this course has equipped me with the tools to create a strong resume that can help me succeed in the job market.
